FAUST

Grand Theater of Geneva

Along with Carmen, Faust is one of the most famous French operas in the world.
Virtually forgetting Goethe's philosophy, the human condition, knowledge of the world, Gounod's Faust wants to rediscover eternal youth to make up for lost time! "Give me the young mistresses, to me the energy of powerful instincts and the crazy orgy of the heart and the senses!" Faust becomes an obsessed hedonist. Tranform Goethe's Faust into music was a challenge. The work has lost its philosophical dimension but retains a great charm and remains an icon of French opera.

Here is an excerpt from Charles Gounod's Faust with the orchestra of Suisse Romande and the Opera of Nations in Geneva, staged by Georges Lavaudant in the year 2018.
